SONS AND FATHERS

• In these sections, there are two important
  stories about fathers and sons

  which people are capable of when mistreated for a
  long period of time, but they also reflect on a
  central theme
• the way the Holocaust tests and strains
  parent-child bonds

• Eliezer prays that he will never do to his father
  what Rabbi Eliahus son did to him.
• However, though Eliezer never beats his father,
  his resentment toward him is evident as both
  father and sons spirit and strength are tested.

ANOTHER JUMP INTO THE FUTURE

• Eliezers observance of the German townspeople
  who cruelly throw bread to the starving Jews to
  watch them fight to the death is another example
  of Eliezer flashing forward into the future to
  show how the Holocaust has forever altered his
  understanding of humankind.

  clear example of cruel human behavior.
