Title: Christ or Circumcision?

1
Christ or Circumcision?
  • Galatians 52-12
  • Paul Draws a Firm Line to Preserve the Gospel of
    Jesus Christ

2
The Dividing Line
  • GAL 52-4 Behold I, Paul, say to you that if you
receive circumcision, Christ will be of no
benefit to you. And I testify again to every man
who receives circumcision, that he is under
obligation to keep the whole Law. You have been
severed from Christ, you who are seeking to be
justified by law you have fallen from grace.

3
The Shadow of Circumcision
  • Colossians 29-11
  • For in Him all the fullness of Deity dwells in
bodily form, and in Him you have been made
complete, and He is the head over all rule and
authority and in Him you were also circumcised
with a circumcision made without hands, in the
removal of the body of the flesh by the
    circumcision of Christ.

4
Life in the Spirit not the Letter
  • GAL 55-6 For we through the Spirit, by faith,
are waiting for the hope of righteousness. For in
    Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor
uncircumcision means anything, but faith working
    through love.

5
Confidence in the Lord
  • Galatians 57-10 You were running well who
hindered you from obeying the truth. This
persuasion did not come from Him who calls you. A
little leaven leavens the whole lump of dough. I
have confidence in you in the Lord that you will
adopt no other view but the one who is
disturbing you will bear his judgment, whoever he
    is.

6
The Value of the Cross
  • Galatians 511-12
  • But I, brethren, if I still preach circumcision,
why am I still persecuted? Then the stumbling
block of the cross has been abolished. I wish
that those who are troubling you would even
    mutilate themselves.

7
Christ or Circumcision?
  • If one accepts the keeping of the Mosaic law as
part of the necessary steps of the faith, then
they are under the penalty of the whole law.
Thus, one is no longer considered a member of the
community of the redeemed as they are not in
    Christ.

8
Can We Be Severed?
  • JOHN 151-2 I am the true vine, and My Father is
the vinedresser. Every branch in Me that does not
bear fruit, He takes away and every branch that
bears fruit, He prunes it so that it may bear
    more fruit.
  • JOHN 155-6 I am the vine, you are the branches
he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much
fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing. If
anyone does not abide in Me, he is thrown away as
a branch and dries up and they gather them, and
cast them into the fire and they are burned.

9
The Validity of Warnings
  • Hebrews 411 Therefore let us be diligent to
enter that rest, so that no one will fall,
through following the same example of
    disobedience.
  • Hebrews 314 For we have become partakers of
Christ, if we hold fast the beginning of our
    assurance firm until the end
  • If we must continue,
  • are we then secure in Christ?

10
The Key of Gods Preserving Power
  • 1 Peter 13-5 Blessed be the God and Father of
our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great
mercy has caused us to be born again to a living
hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ
from the dead, to obtain an inheritance which is
imperishable and undefiled and will not fade
away, reserved in heaven for you, who are
protected by the power of God through faith for a
salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

11
The Impenetrable Power of God
  • Romans 835-39 Who will separate us from the
love of Christ? Will tribulation, or distress, or
persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril,
or sword? Just as it is written, "For Your sake
we are being put to death all day long We were
considered as sheep to be slaughtered." But in
all these things we overwhelmingly conquer
through Him who loved us. For I am convinced that
neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor
principalities, nor things present, nor things to
come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any
other created thing, will be able to separate us
from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus
    our Lord.

12
Those who do not continue were never really of
us.
  • 1 John 219
  • They went out from us, but they were not really
of us for if they had been of us, they would
have remained with us but they went out, so that
it would be shown that they all are not of us.

13
1 Be Sure You Have A Genuine Faith in the One
True Gospel
  • 2 Corinthians 135-6
  • Test yourselves to see if you are in the faith
examine yourselves! Or do you not recognize this
about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you --
unless indeed you fail the test? But I trust that
you will realize that we ourselves do not fail
    the test.

14
2 Keep Your Eyes Fixed on the Cross
  • Colossians 214
  • . . . having canceled out the certificate of debt
consisting of decrees against us, which was
hostile to us and He has taken it out of the
way, having nailed it to the cross.

15
The All Sufficient Savior
  • 2 Peter 12-3
  • Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the
knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord seeing
that His divine power has granted to us
everything pertaining to life and godliness,
through the true knowledge of Him who called us
by His own glory and excellence.
