Title: COMPLETE IN CHRIST

1
  • COMPLETE IN CHRIST
  • EPH 2 9-15

2
  • Col 29-15
  • 9 For in Him all the fullness of Deity dwells in
    bodily form,
  • 10 and in Him you have been made complete, and He
is the head over all rule and authority
  • 11 and in Him you were also circumcised with a
circumcision made without hands, in the removal
of the body of the flesh by the circumcision of
    Christ

3
  • 12 having been buried with Him in baptism, in
which you were also raised up with Him through
faith in the working of God, who raised Him from
    the dead.
  • 13 And when you were dead in your transgressions
and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He made you
alive together with Him, having forgiven us all
    our transgressions,
  • 14 having canceled out the certificate of debt
consisting of decrees against us and which was
hostile to us and He has taken it out of the
way, having nailed it to the cross. NASB

4
  • In Christ
  • A life united with Christ - believers, share or
participate in the life of Christ through the
    indwelling of Christ's Spirit.
  • 10 and in Him you have been made complete

5
  • The reason you have been made complete
  • 9 For in Him all the fullness of Deity dwells in
    bodily form,
  • 10b He is the head over all rule and authority

6
  • Paul here asserts that "all the of the Godhead,"
not just certain aspects, dwells in Christ in
    physical form.
  • The fullness and completeness of God was in
Christ before the Incarnation (John 11,18 Phil
26), and during the Incarnation (John 114,18 1
    John 11-3).
  • Paul plainly presents the deity and the humanity
of Jesus Christ in physical form.

7
  • Because of that fullness or completeness Christ
    has both power and authority
  • Matt 2818
  • And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying,
"All authority has been given to Me in heaven and
    on earth. NASB

8
  • How are we Complete?

9
  • 1. Complete SALVATION 211-12
  • The saving of mankind from
  • the penalty, power and the effects of sin

10
  • 11 and in Him you were also circumcised with a
circumcision made without hands, in the removal
of the body of the flesh by the circumcision of
    Christ
  • 12 having been buried with Him in baptism, in
which you were also raised up with Him through
faith in the working of God, who raised Him from
    the dead.

11
  • Circumcision in this passage is symbolic of the
faith relationship between Christ and believers
  • It is a circumcision of the heart symbolizing an
    inner transformation

12
  • Baptism in v. 12 is also a spiritual reference
referring to the reality of the believers union
    with Christ.
  • Water baptism is a picture of that reality

13
  • Spiritual transformation from death to life is
only achieved by faith in the power of God,
belief that God is able to do what He says he
will do. The analogy of baptism is a picture of
not simply burying an old way of life and rising
to a new kind of life, but of sharing spiritually
in the experience of Christs own death and
    resurrection.

14
  • Rom 63-5
  • 3 Or do you not know that all of us who have been
baptized into Christ Jesus have been baptized
    into His death?
  • 4 Therefore we have been buried with Him through
baptism into death, in order that as Christ was
raised from the dead through the glory of the
Father, so we too might walk in newness of life.
  • 5 For if we have become united with Him in the
likeness of His death, certainly we shall be also
in the likeness of His resurrection, NASB

15
  • In Him through His death burial and
    resurrection there is complete rescue,
deliverance and security for the soul from the
penalty, power and effects of sin.

16
  • Christ is Sufficient for Salvation
  • In Christ our Salvation Our rescue and
    deliverance is complete.

17
  • 2. Complete Forgiveness
  • 213-14
  • Forgiveness is complete apart from any human work

18
  • Forgiveness is not excusing sin
  • Because God is a holy God, His anger and
justice burns against sin. And He has sworn that
sin will be punished. There must be a
    satisfactory payment for sin.

19
  • If God punishes man for his sin, man would die
and go to hell. That would be justice.
  • On the other hand, if God doesnt punish man for
his sin, that would be excusing sin.
  • His justice would never be satisfied.

20
  • Col 213-14
  • 13 And when you were dead in your transgressions
and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He made you
alive together with Him, having forgiven us all
    our transgressions,

21
  • Col 213-14
  • 13 And when you were dead in your transgressions
and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He made you
alive together with Him, having forgiven us all
    our transgressions,

22
  • Col 213-14
  • 13 And when you were dead in your transgressions
and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He made you
alive together with Him, having forgiven us all
    our transgressions,

23
  • 14 having canceled out the certificate of debt
consisting of decrees against us and which was
hostile to us and He has taken it out of the
way, having nailed it to the cross. NASB

24
  • He wiped away the certificate of debt against us
    by His blood at Calvary.

25
  • 18 "Come now, and let us reason together," Says
the LORD, "Though your sins are as scarlet, They
will be as white as snow Though they are red
like crimson, They will be like wool.
  • Isa 118 NASB

26
  • Heb 922
  • . . .without shedding of blood there is no
    forgiveness
  • NASB
  • Matt 2628
  • 28 for this is My blood of the covenant, which is
poured out for many for forgiveness of sins. NASB
  • Eph 17
  • 7 In Him we have redemption through His blood,
the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to
the riches of His grace, NASB

27
  • That is complete FORGIVENESS

28
  • The death of Christ brings about transformation,
pardon and conquest which translate into complete
    salvation, and complete forgiveness

29
  • Have You experienced completeness In Christ?
  • Are You living in that completeness?
