How do organisms obtain energy?

• Autotrophs Producers
• - Organisms that use energy from the sun or
  energy stored in chemical compounds to
  manufacture their own nutrients.
• Chemosynthesis(some bacteria)

• Heterotrophs (consumers)
• - Organisms that cannot make their own food and
  must feed on other organisms.
• Herbivores
• - Type of organism that only eats producers.
• Detritivores
• - Consumers that feed on the garbage of an
  ecosystem.

• Scavengers-
• - Animals that eat other animals who have
  already died.
• Decomposers- (bacteria fungi)
• - Organisms that break down and absorb nutrients
  from dead organisms.
• - Two Types are scavengers detritivores
• Carnivores-
• - Organisms that eat other consumers.
• Omnivores-
• - Organisms that eat both producers and
  consumers.

• Food Chain-
• - Simple model biologist use to show how energy
  and matter move through an ecosystem. (single
  pathway)

• - A feeding step in the passage of energy and
  materials. (energy transfersonly 10 of the
  energy is passed from level to level.)

• - Model which expresses all feeding
  relationships at each trophic level in a
  community.
