DENSITY

• Density is the concentration of matter in a given
  space.
• It is expressed mathematically as

• Density is a property of matter that does not
  vary with the size or shape of the sample.
• Each pure substance has its own unique density.
• Density is a characteristic which helps identify
  a material.

TEMPERATURE DENSITY

• Heating a material adds energy to its molecules.
• The molecules tend to collide with more force.
• The molecules spread apart.
• The result is a decrease in Density.

PRESSURE DENSITY

• As pressure rises the molecules of a material
  move closer together.
• The Volume decreases.
• The result is an increase in the Density.

STATE OF MATTER DENSITY

• As a substance changes state, its volume changes.
• This results in a change in its Density.
• In most cases, solids have a higher density than
  liquids gases.
• Water is an exception to this rule.
