Title: The Muscular System
1The Muscular System
- Chapter 1 Section 4
- Pages 24 - 28
2Objective Describe the function of muscles and
tendons Objective Analyze how the skeletal and
muscular systems work together to coordinate
body movement Objective Identify the three types
of muscle tissue and describe Their functions.
- Involuntary Muscles Not under your conscious
control. - Responsible for breathing and digesting food.
- Voluntary Muscles Under your control.
Responsible for - Such actions as smiling, raising your hand,
sitting, etc.
- Skeletal Muscles Attached to the bones of your
skeleton. - Provides the force that moves your bones. They
are striated, - Voluntary, and react quickly as well as tire
quickly
3- Tendons Strong connective tissue that attaches
muscles to - Bone.
- Smooth Muscles Works automatically to control
many - Actions inside your body. They are INVOLUNTARY.
- They are NOT striated. They react slowly and
tire slowly.
- Cardiac Muscles Muscles of the heart.
- They are INVOLUNTARY, Striated, Do not get tired
- Muscle cells can only contract, not extend,
skeletal muscles - must work in pairs. While one muscle contracts,
the other - Returns to its original length.
48. Muscle Care
Exercise maintain strength and flexibility
Stretching Before working out (Warm
up) Stretch after work out (Cool Down)
Use Safety Equipment Examples Pads on joints,
back support, Helmets, Good Shoes
- Muscle Injuries
Muscle Strain Pulled muscle
Tendon Strain or Tear
Muscle Cramping
