Todays Session
  • All of you Will understand the importance of the
    muscular system, taking into account the key
    terms of VOLUNTARY, INVOLUNTARY and CARDIAC
    MUSCLES.
  • Most of you Will understand the key terms above
    whilst also understanding the principle of
    ANTAGONISTIC PAIRS.
  • Some of you Will begin the work on what the
    muscles actually do in class (finish for HW)

TASK
  • On the board are 11 names of muscles.
  • Decide on a Dummy from your group to be used in
    the presentation.
  • It is the rest of the groups job to decide where
    these muscles are situated and label them
    correctly.
  • You have 7 mins for this task- when you are
    finished take a picture of the dummy to show they
    are correct!

So how do muscles work?
  • Muscles work in 3 ways
  • Voluntary- You choose to make it move
  • Involuntary- works without thought- blinking?
  • Cardiac The Heart- most important muscle

How do muscles move?
  • Muscles are attached to bones by tendons.
  • Muscles cannot push- this is why they must work
    in pairs.
  • Muscles must work in ANTAGONISTIC PAIRS to allow
    successful movement.
  • The muscle shortening is the AGONIST (Agony)
  • The muscle lengthening is the ANTAGONIST (making
    it get shorter)
