2Who We Train
Every soldier, noncommissioned officer (NCO),
warrant officer, and officer has one primary
mission to be trained and ready to fight and
win our Nations wars. (FM 7-0)
3Why We Train
The Armys Mission is to deter war, or if
deterrence fails, to reestablish peace through
victory in combat whenever U.S. interests are
challenged. To accomplish this, the Armys
forces must be able to perform their assigned
strategic, operational, and tactical missions.
(FM 7-0)
4How We Train
Leaders must know and understand the principles
of training to effectively train their units.
The principles provide direction, but are
sufficiently flexible to accommodate local
conditions and the judgment of commanders and
other leaders. (FM 25-101)
5The Principles of Training
- Train as combined arms and services teams
- Train as you fight
- Use appropriate doctrine
- Use performance-oriented training
- Train to challenge
- Train to sustain proficiency
- Train using multi-echelon techniques
- Train to maintain
- Make the commanders the primary trainers
- (FM 25-101)
6What We Train
All Army training is conducted to Army
standards. Army standards are the minimum
acceptable levels of proficiency set by an Army
agency, school or department for a particular
task. The tasks to be performed are set by the
Commander in the Mission-Essential Task List
(METL). These tasks come from ARTEPs, TMs,
Mission Training Plans (MTPs), Mobilization
Plans, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and
Tables of Organization and Equipment (TOEs). (FM
25-101)
7When We Train
To be successful in combat, the Army must train
continually to develop and maintain combat-ready
soldiers, leaders, and units that can perform
assigned tasks to specific standards. The
requirement for training continues even during
wartime (especially within the combat zone).
Training builds self-confidence, promotes
teamwork and esprit de corps, and increases
professionalism in soldiers, leaders , and units.
