What is a Doctor?
  • A doctor
  • diagnoses and treats illnesses
  • prevents diseases
  • maintains patients health
  • offers advice and counselling
  • does research and conducts studies

After Graduation
  • Serves as house officer/intern for 1 year, under
    supervision of a consultant
  • After that.
  • 50 becomes GPs
  • others become hospital doctors
  • the rest take up research, teaching, community or
    administrative jobs

General Practitioner (GP)
  • Opens own clinic or joins a group practice
  • Deals with a wide variety of general complaints
  • Treats common ailments e.g. coughs colds
  • Prescribes medicine and does minor surgeries
  • Refers serious cases to hospital

  • Entry requirement
  • Biology, Chemistry and usually Physics, Maths and
    English for A levels
  • Min. 2As1B (3 As should secure a place)
  • 4 year course for those with a BSc.
  • Normally, applicants lt17 or gt30 are not accepted
