What is a Desert?
A desert is a hot dry place.

Most deserts are in the hottest countries of the
world, but some deserts are cold.

Some deserts are covered with sand, others with
stones and rocks.

Snakes, lizards, gerbils and beetles hide in the
shade of rocks. Camels live there.

Deserts are so dry that very few plants can grow

What is an Oasis?
It is a place where there are water all year
round. People dig deep wells to reach water under
the ground.

It is dry land but not so as dry as a desert.
Many people live there. They keep goats and plant
crops in the dry earth.

Two cold snowy and icy places. Arctic and
Antarctic.

They lie around the North and South Poles.

A thick layer of ice which changes its size
growing large in winter and shorter in summer.

Penguins and seals in areas of Antarctica and
polar bears in the Arctic.
