• Many are produced by Volcanos
• Some are produced when underground magma cools
  and hardens

• When little pieces of rock and other sediments
  are broken down by erosion or wind, they are
  carried down creeks and rivers and settle.
• They are then cemented and compacted over time.
  Can take thousands to millions of years

• Metamorphic rocks were once igneous and
  sedimentary rocks.
• So, how did they turn into metamorphic rocks?
• Tons and tons of pressure, which causes heat
  build up and change occurs.

• 99 of all rocks in Kentucky

  from plant material (peat and ferns).
