Uses of the Imperfect to Talk About the Past

• To talk about something that used to happen
• I used to read a story before bed
• To speak about how old someone was
• He was 30 years old when
• To speak about background events in a story
• While I was walking through the forest
• To say what time it was / talk about the weather.
• It was 830 pm / It was hot
• To talk about past events that dont have
• definite starting and ending points.
• When he was a kid

• Keep the stem of the infinitive and add the
  following endings
• hablar
• yo hablaba nosotros hablabamos
• tú hablabas vosotros hablabais
• él/ella hablaba ellos/ellas hablaban

• Volver is a stem-changing verb in the present,
  but stem-changing verbs dont change in the
  imperfect!

• Conocer is irregular in the present, but not in
  the imperfect!
• How about decir?

• Decir is stem-changing and irregular in both the
  present and the preterite, but its regular in
  the imperfect!
• How about levantarse?

• Reflexive verbs work the same as in the present
  dont forget to put the reflexive pronoun in
  front of the verb!
