2Crafts/Stories
They did mainly these four crafts quillwork,
beadwork, basketry, and pottery. They had many
stories here are some of them Origin Story, The
Origin of the Wolf Clan, The Origin of Corn, How
a Bear Blessed a Man, and many many more stories.
3Lived/Houses
They lived in rectangular houses not tepees.
Their roofs were shingled with Birchbark. They
were original residents of the Great Lakes.
4Clothing/Hair
When weather got cold they wore buffalo robes.
Ho-Chunk men wore two long braids and women wore
one long braid. Did you know they never cut their
hair unless in mourning.
5Food/Tools
They harvested the three sisters.The three
sisters are corn, squash, and beans. They hunted
buffalo , deer and other small game, men used
nets and spears for fishing. Bow and arrows were
used for two things hunting and fighting.
6Population
The Ho-Chunk were probably higher than 8,000 in
the beginning. Then it started lowering it was
the worst experienced by any nation. The lowest
point ever was five hundred people. Now it is
over twelve thousand one of the largest nations.
