Title: Two Dimensional Motion

1
Chapter 26
  • Two Dimensional Motion
  • Vectors Projectiles

2
  • Vector quantity -
  • a quantity that has both magnitude and direction

3
  • Vector -
  • an arrow drawn to represent a vector quantity
  • it must be drawn to scale

4
These represent equivalent vectors
5
  • Scalar quantity ----
  • a quantity that has magnitude but not direction

6
Examples.Vectors
  • Speed
  • Velocity.
  • Acceleration..
  • Time.
  • Distance..

Examples.Vectors
  • Mass...
  • Force
  • density.
  • momentum.

8
Represent the magnitude of a vector by the length
of the arrow.

Resultant
  • When two vectors are added together, the result
    is called the resultant.
  • It is the diagonal or hypotenuse of a triangle.

10
Components
  • The vertical (y) and horizontal (x) vectors that
are at right angles to each other. They can
    replace a vector.

11
Projectile
  • An object that moves through air or space. A
projectile moving near the earths surface will
follow a curved path due to the pull of gravity.

12
Upwardly launched Projectiles
  • Without g a projectile would follow the path that
it was shot in. However due to g, the
projectile will fall the same distance...

13
  • below the actual launch path that it would have
fallen if it were dropped vertically.
  • To achieve max. horizontal distance, a projectile
    should be launched at 45
