Professor Flanagan is the author of The
Bodhisattvas Brain Buddhism Naturalized (2011),
The Really Hard Problem Meaning in a Material
World (2007), The Problem of the Soul Two
Visions of Mind and How to Reconcile Them (2002),
and many other books and articles. Is our life
like a dramatic or artistic performance? Should
it be? Is the self somehow constituted by the
performance? Flanagan will examine three
psychopoetic conceptions of persons to determine
whether there are legitimate constraints on
performing oneself, and, if so, what these may
be.
