Construction
  • Harland and Wolff originally designed the
    Titanic. They started building it in1911.
  • It was a very dangerous job building the Titanic
    because they dont have any safety clothing or
    equipment .

Facilities Onboard
  • There was a private 50 foot promenade
  • The ladies have there own reading and writing
    group.
  • They had a heated swimming pool it was the first
    ever to be made on a boat
  • There was a a first and second class smoking room
    for men.

Maiden Voyage
  • The ship set sail on the 10 April 1912.
  • It went from Southampton to New York.
  • There were 2,240 passengers on board.

Iceberg Collision
  • On Sunday the 14 April 1912 the temperature
    dropped to near freezing and the ocean was still
    and calm.
  • The moon was not visible. Also it was 2 days
    before the new moon.
  • The Titanic moved quickly across the ocean
    suddenly collided with a massive iceberg.

The Sinking
  • The Titanic was sailing at about 24 knots.
  • Very close by they saw a iceberg and tried to
    doge it.
  • But underneath the water the iceberg was a lot
    bigger than the people on the Titanic thought and
    it hit the hull and buckled a few panels.
  • The Titanic could of held 32 lifeboats but it
    only had 20 on board.
  • After 1 hour they had 1 lifeboat full and 3 hours
    later the titanic had slowly sank down to the
    bottom with the captain Edward John Smith.

Survivors
  • Ms Van Tongerloo was 8 years old when The Titanic
    was hit by an iceberg. She and her sister was
    were on the Titanic sailing to Detroit to see her
    father.
  • There was 2200 people on board The Titanic but
    only 705 were saved.
  • A passenger on board told her mother that she
    should get to the front deck with her children
    because there has been a bad accident.
