The Civil War

• North and South had diversified economies (N
  Industrial SAgricultural) Many Northerners are
  also going to view slavery as wrong (central need
  for the South) Tariff of Abominations made
  European goods more expensive (Encouraged you to
  buy Northern goods)

Lincoln is Elected

• With Lincolns election South Carolina began the
  secession of southern states
• Secede means to withdraw from
• The Southern States assumed Lincoln would try to
  stop slavery although his campaign promise was
  to stop the EXPANSION of Slavery

• To make sure the South was changing to meet
  Northern requirements they sent in the military
  and created five military districts to govern
• Many laws were passed to insure peoples rights
  in the South (these will be changed after
  Reconstruction)
• Suffrage was the main focus as it is the right to
  vote
