Distributed Learning (definition)
  • Where the students may be in a different location
    than the teacher
  • Synchronous or asynchronous
  • definition Synchronous students log in at the
    same time as the faculty member

    any time on their own time and work at their own

Master of Nursing
  • May be course-based or thesis-based
  • Course-based 24 credit units including
    publishable paper
  • Thesis-based 15 credit units and thesis
  • Both include clinical practicum course
  • distributed learning model

PhD in Nursing
  • Prepares nurse scholars for leadership roles with
    knowledge and skills to advance nursing as a
    academic, research and practice discipline
  • 18 c.u. including two cognate courses
  • Independent research guided by supervisor and
    committee culminating in a doctoral dissertation
  • Usually three to five years to complete on a full
    time basis

Admission Criteria - MN
  • Bachelors degree in Nursing
  • 70 cumulative GPA over last 60 credit units in
    undergraduate program
  • Registration as RN or RPN in Canada (see website
    for international students)
  • 3 c.u. in undergraduate statistics and 3 c.u.
    research methods 70 in each strongly
    encouraged
  • NP option only - 3600 hours clinical experience
    as an RN

Admission Criteria - PhD
  • Must have a Masters degree in a field relevant
    to PhD study.
  • Must have completed a graduate level course in
    statistics, research methods and nursing theory
  • Minimum overall average of 80 is required
  • Must be a licenced RN or RPN

    Studies and Research (75 application fee
    required)
  • College of Nursing Supplementary Application Form
    and letter
  • Three Letters of Reference (sent from the online
    application)
  • Official transcripts from ALL post-secondary
    education completed (including SIAST)
  • Copy of SRNA or other RN/RPN license
  • English Proficiency (for International Students
    whos first language is not English)

Tuition 2012/2013 Rates
  • Thesis Doctoral students
  • Pay 1149.00 per term (three terms/year) from
    beginning to end of program
  • Course-based students
  • Graduate Courses - 555.00 per course
  • 535.50 for maintenance of status in any term not
    registered in a course
  • International Graduate Students are assessed
    tuition at 1.5 times the posted rate for domestic
    students
  • For example 1149.00 x 1.5 1723.50 per term
  • Each course 555.00 x 1.5 832.50 per course

Nurse Practitioner
  • For nurses who already have an MN degree
  • 30 credit units do not repeat research methods,
    statistics or publishable paper
  • Same clinical as MN/NP
  • Term 4 only has NURS 888
