Facts
  • An iceberg is a large mass of free-floating polar
glacier ice. Small icebergs are called
growlers. Nearly 90 of a iceberg lies bellow
the waterline. Although no one knows for sure how
large the Titanics iceberg was, eyewitness
accounts reported it was as high as 100 feet and
    as long as 400 feet!

  • The Titanics 350 first-class cabins had
telephones, electric heaters, and hot and cold
running water. Some had private bathrooms. Many
first-class passengers brought their own maids
and butlers, who slept in cabins nearby.

Where was First-class?
  • First-class staterooms were in the middle of the
ship, were passengers would be less affected by
motion. Jack and his parents occupied first-class
    suites on C deck

Where was Second-Class?
  • In the Beckers roomy Second-Class cabin near the
Titanics stern, Ruth peeked through a porthole
close to the waterline. I could see the ocean
water almost up to my eyes.

6
Where was Third-class?
  • Steerage cabins were located in the bow and stern
sections of the ship. The Titanic had only two
bathtubs for the 710 third-class passengers.

Jacks new friend
  • On Sunday evening, the fourth night of their
voyage, Jacks parents dined with Captain Smith
in the super expensive a la carte restaurant.
They were all guests of Mr. and Mrs. George
Widener, Harrys parents. But Jack ate in the
first-class dining saloon. Here, he made a new
friend, 29 year old Milton Long from Springfield,
Massachusetts. Milton had exiting stories to tell
about his travels. He had even survived a
    shipwreck in Alaska.
