Title: Seven Ways To Disobey God

1
Seven Ways To Disobey God
  • This presentation is obviously and admittedly a
negative approach, exemplifying how man can fail
to submit to the will of God. It is our aim that
by simply presenting these seven ways in which
man can and does disobey God, we can be more
sensitive and cognizant regarding any indication
of disobedience on our part. We do not want to
be ignorant of Satans devices (2 Cor. 2 11).
I am not sure that these seven ways are the only
ways, there can certainly be semantical
consideration, however, in the main, they cover
    the possibilities.

2
Seven Ways To Disobey God
  • God has always required man to accept and
    explicitly obey
  • 6 And the LORD said unto Cain, Why art thou
wroth? and why is thy countenance fallen? 7 If
thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and
if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door
    (Gen. 4, cp. Heb. 11 4).

Seven Ways To Disobey God
  • The final dispensation in which we live, the age
    of grace, is no different
  • 8 Though he were a Son, yet learned he
obedience by the things which he suffered9 And
being made perfect, he became the author of
eternal salvation unto all them that obey him
    (Heb. 5).

4
Seven Ways To Disobey God
  • We must realize that God speaks to us and
    commands us through his Son
  • Hebrews 1 1, 2, Acts 3 22, 23, 2 John 9-11,
    John 12 48.

5
Seven Ways To Disobey God
  • 1. By Doing What Is Forbidden (Gen. 216, 17 3
    6).
  • Adam and Eve, in eating the forbidden fruit,
violated the Will of God.  We refer to this kind
of sin as a sin of commission.  They committed an
act which God specifically had prohibited.  Men
today often do exactly what He has forbidden.

6
Seven Ways To Disobey God
  • 2. By Refusing To Do What God Has Commanded (Jas.
    4 17 Luke 730 Heb. 10 25).
  • Some believe that more sin by failing to do what
is commanded than by any other way (cp. Luke 16
    19-31, Acts 10 1, 2, 11 14).

7
Seven Ways To Disobey God
  • 3. By Adding To The Word Of God (Deut. 4 2 Rev.
    22 18).
  • Adding to Gods word or commandments is very
    common (cp. Eph. 5 19 Col. 2 12, I Pet. 5 2).

8
Seven Ways To Disobey God
  • 4. By Taking From The Word Of God (Deut. 4 2
    Rev. 22 19).
  • To take from God's Word is a sin of the same sort
as to add to His Word. Some talk about
    non-essential commands. (Cp. Heb. 5 8, 9
    Matt. 5 32).

9
Seven Ways To Disobey God
  • 5. By ostensibly obeying, but the heart is absent
    (Luke 18 9-14).
  • Saul learned this lesson the hard way (I Sam. 15
    22, 23. cp. Rom. 6 17, 18, Rev. 2 1-7).

10
Seven Ways To Disobey God
  • 6. By Substituting For What God Has Commanded
    (Lev.101-3).
  • Nadab and Abihu, though they offered fire, did
not offer the fire that God had commanded, and
thus were consumed because of the strange
    fire. (Cp. sprinkling for baptism.)

11
Seven Ways To Disobey God
  • 7. By not respecting the silence of the
    scriptures (cp. Heb. 7 14).
  • "Would it be scripturally allowable for brethren
to form a missionary society, having its
president, board of directors and treasury
through which to preach the gospel, support
preachers, and send out preachers, with
theproviso that this "Reach the Lost Foundation"
did not solicit or accept monies from churches
    (just individuals)? (I Tim. 3 15.)

Seven Ways To Disobey God
  • Conclusion
  • 18 And Balaam answered and said unto the
servants of Balak, If Balak would give me his
house full of silver and gold, I cannot go beyond
the word of the LORD my God, to do less or more
    (Num. 22).
  • 5 His mother saith unto the servants,
Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it (John 2).
