Rise To Presidency
  • He fought as a boy in the Revolutionary War,
    studied law, and in 1788 moved west to Nashville.
  • Then serving as Tennessee prosecutor, judge,
    congressman, and senator, he won fame as a major
    general in the War of 1812 with smashing
    victories against the Creek Indians in 1814 and
    the British at New Orleans in January 1815.
  • He was named America's greatest military hero
    since George Washington.
  • After leading armys to Spain and Florida,
    Jackson served briefly as territorial governor
    and then as a senator, from 1823 to 1825. then
    ran in the four-candidate presidential race in
    1824.

Jackson and the Creek Indians
  • Jackson ordered the destruction of many Creek
    Indian villages in a six month massacre 1813-1814
  • He executed Creek Indian Chief Francis the
    Prophet at St. Marks, Florida
  • Jackson executed Arbuthnot, and Armbrister, two
    traders, whom he believed to be plotting with
    indians
