Daily Life Was HARD!

• Plantations Large farms mostly growing
  tobacco
• Head right system Colonists who pay their way
  to New World get 50 acres of land and 50 acres
  for each person.
• Indentured servants people who come for free
  but agree to work w/out pay for a of years

Bacons Rebellion

• Colonial Officials started to tax Colonists
• Nathaniel Bacon led rebellion against government
  policies in 1676.
• They burned Jamestown and controlled much of the
  colony until Nathaniel died and the rebellion
  soon ended.

Religious Freedom

• Maryland Passed the Toleration Act of 1649 To
  Support Religious Tolerance.
• The law made it illegal to restrict the religious
  rights of Christians.
