Extracting DNA
  • Restriction enzyme
  • has a specific shape
  • travel along the channels of the double helix
  • Scan for a certain sequence of amino acids.
  • When the desired trait (sequence of amino acids)
    is found, it cuts the DNA
  • The new DNA can now be implanted into the cut
    bacteria plasmid

  • The restriction enzyme leaves an adhesive end
  • - helps the new gene to
    attach
  • DNA strip and plasmid are fused together.
  • -Ligase enzyme
  • Bacteria then reproduce
  • Bacteria also manufacture the enzyme needed to
    cut the desired string of DNA
