Title: Third Grade EOG Math Review
1Third Grade EOG Math Review
2There is a lot of information that you will need
from Goal 2!
- This goal covers
- Length
- Elapsed Time
- Weight
- Capacity
- Temperature
This slideshow will help review important
concepts that you need to KNOW for the EOG!
3Know it...about length!
When we are measuring length, we are trying to
figure out how long an object is.
There are two systems of length that we use to
determine length--- the Customary System and the
Metric System.
4Customary Length
Inch (in.)
Foot (ft.)
Yard (yd)
Mile (mi)
Distance from Charlotte to New York
person
Small objects, like a crayon
backyard
5Customary Conversion Chart
12 inches 1 foot
36 inches 1 yard
3 feet 1 yard
1,760 yards 1 mile
5,280 feet 1 mile
6Know appropriate measures for distances!
- Measure small objects using inches, such as
erasers and books. - If its as big as you are, use feet!
- If it is as big as your backyard, use yards!
- Miles measures the most distance.. You go far in
your car!
7Metric Length
centimeter (cm.)
decimeter (dm.)
kilometer (km.)
meter (m.)
far distances, like from our school to Walmart
book
person
tiny objects, like an eye
8Metric Conversion Chart
10 centimeters 1 decimeter
100 centimeters 1 meter
1,000 meters 1 kilometer
Use prefixes to help you remember conversions!
9Know appropriate measures for distances!
- Measure small objects using centimeters, such as
erasers and books. - If it is as big as your backyard, use meters!
- Kilometers measures the most distance.. You go
far in your car!
10Know itabout temperature!
- Temperature answers the question, How warm?
- We use thermometers to measure temperature.
- There are 2 scales that we use to measure
temperatureFahrenheit and Celsius. - Temperature is measured in degrees.
11Know it..about Fahrenheit!
- 90 is hot
- 70 is nice
- 50 is cool
- And 32 is ice.
The freezing point in Fahrenheit is 32?F.
The boiling point in Fahrenheit is 212?F.
12Know it..about Celsius!
- Count by tens and you will see,
- Celsius is so easy!
- 0 is freezing, 10 is just cool,
- 20 is the temperature of most
- rooms at school,
- 30 is quite a warm spot
- and 40 is just plain hot.
The freezing point in Celsius is 0?C.
The boiling point in Celsius is 100?C.
13Know itabout capacity!
- Capacity tells the amount a container can hold.
- Capacity can be measured using measuring cups or
measuring spoons. - There are 2 systems we use to measure
capacity---customary and metric!
14Know it..about customary capacity!
- There are 4 main units of customary capacity!
- GallonsGal
- QuartsQt
- PintsPt
- Cups--C
15Use the Big G to help with conversions!
- 2 cups 1 pint
- 2 pints 1 quart
- 4 quarts 1 gallon
- 8 pints 1 gallon
- 16 cups 1 gallon
16Know it..about metric capacity!
- There are 2 main units of customary capacity!
- Liter L
- Milliliter-- mL
A milliliter is about a drop.
There are 1,000 milliliters in one liter.
1,000 mL 1 L
17Know itabout elapsed time!
- Elapsed time describes the passing of time.
- It answers the question How much time has
passed? - Knowing how to tell time is a MUST for
calculating elapsed time.
Each large number on a clock represents 5 minutes.
60 minutes 1 hour
18Know strategies for calculating elapsed time!
- Draw an analog clock to help you!
- Make a table like this
- Create a timeline.
Activity Start Time End Time Elapsed Time
19Know itabout weight!
- How heavy is it?
- We use two systems to measure weight, or
massCustomary and Metric. - Scales can be used to measure weight.
20Know itabout customary weight!
- There are two units we use in the customary
system of weight.
ounces
pounds
1 lb 16 oz.
21Know itabout metric weight!
- There are two units we use in the metric system
of weight.
grams
kilograms
1,000 g 1 kg
kilo 1,000
