Haemoglobin

• Haemoglobin has a high affinity for oxygen when
  the oxygen content in the environment is high.
• Haemoglobin has a low affinity for oxygen when
  the oxygen content in the environment is low.

• When oxygen combines with haemoglobin it combines
  to form oxyhaemoglobin.

• Produced in Red Bone Marrow
• Require vitamin B12 for development
• Require iron for haemoglobin formation
• Life span 120 days
• Broken down in liver, bone marrow and spleen by
  macrophages
• When haemoglobin is broken down iron is stored in
  the liver and bilirubin is excreted as bile
  pigment.
