Sen. Murray stated that there is no better way to
improve the economy than to train students with
skills for such industries as green energy,
healthcare and mechanics.  There is a lack of
people with the requisite skills to fill these
jobs.   In response to her question How would
you create ways for students to get these
skills, Duncan responded that there should be

• Better coordination with the business community
• Focus on jobs that cannot be outsourced (i.e.,
  nursing)
• Apprenticeship and internship opportunities
• Expose students to all available opportunities
  for after high school
