  • He married Mary Todd Lincoln on November 4th,
    1842
  • He died April 14th, 1865
  • Buried at Oak Ridge Cemetery Springfield,
    Illinois
  • He had 4 children Robert Todd Lincoln, Edward
Baker Lincoln, William Wallace Lincoln, and
    Thomas Lincoln

3
The Lincoln Children
  • 3 out of 4 Lincoln children died from rare
    diseases
  • Robert Todd Lincoln was the only one who died of
old age when he was 82 on July 26, 1926
  • Edward Baker Lincoln died at the age of 4 of
    pulmonary tuberculosis
  • William Wallace Lincoln died when he was 11
    because of typhoid fever
  • Thomas Lincoln died at the age of 18 of
    tuberculosis
  • Abraham Lincoln and his wife had a very hard life
with 3 of their children dying, but they managed
    to live pretty well afterwards

4
Social Contribution
  • Lincoln made it so no one could trade
slaves into the U.S. as an attempt to get rid of
slavery. He then issued an Emancipation
Proclamation which said all slaves are now and
forever free. Lincoln was completely against
slavery. Abraham Lincoln ended slavery for the
    U.S!

5
Childhood
  • Lincoln was born February 12, 1809
  • He moved to India in 1816
  • His mother died when he was only 9
  • He had to walk around barefoot because his family
    couldnt afford shoes
  • He then got very close to his stepmom, Sarah Bush
    Johnston
  • She was always urging him to read so he could be
    smart
  • Good thing too because Lincoln loved to read and
learn from any books he could get his hands on

6
Adolescence
  • In 1831 Lincolns father moved to Coles Country,
    Illinois
  • Instead of going with him, Lincoln went out on
his own so he could become a man
  • So he canoed down the Sangamon River to the
    village of New Salem, Mass.
  • Once he got there, he got hired by a man named
    Denton Offutt
  • He only went to school for 18 months, then he
    self-educated himself

7
Adulthood
  • Lincoln didnt believe in violence
  • He believed everything could be solved by using
    words
  • Unfortunately, not many people agreed with his
    decisions
  • There was many people who wanted him dead because
he was trying to end slavery
  • A man named John Wilkes Booth sneaked up behind
him and shot him with a gun
  • After he died, they built a famous monument of
    him called the Lincoln Memorial

8
Adulthood (as a president)
  • Abraham Lincoln was elected 16th president on
    November 6, 1860
  • He lead a huge crisis called the Civil War
    (1861-1865)
  • He was a great politician with persuasion and
    humor
  • When Lincoln took a second oath of office, the
    war was ending
  • He worked effortlessly for rebuilding our nation
    after the civil war
  • He got assassinated while he was president as he
watched a play at Fords Theatre, Washington, DC

9
Famous Quotes
  • A drop of honey catches more than a gallon of
    gal.
  • Die when I may, I want it said of me that I
plucked a weed and planted a flower wherever I
    thought a flower would grow
  • Character is like a tree, reputation like a
shadow, which means the shadow is what we think
of it, the tree is the real thing

10
President Slide
  • Thomas Jefferson was the president when Abraham
    Lincoln was born
  • Jefferson wrote some of the Declaration of
    Independence
  • Many say he was a Revolutionary Leader

11
Interview
  • If I could ask Abraham Lincoln 3 questions,
    they would be
  • Are you impressed with the progress of the U.S.
    since 1865?
  • What would you change about the U.S. right now?
  • Why do you always wear that top hat?
