About Me
  • I grew up in Chicago, IL (Go Bears!)
  • Ive been married 27 years
  • We moved to Houston where I graduated from the
    University of Houston (Go Cougars!)
  • I have two fantastic children, Linda is 16 and
    J.T. is 14. Both attend Birdville High School
    (Go Hawks!)
  • As you can see, were all water people and enjoy
    any water sports, especially scuba diving
  • I have one loud, yappy dog named Tiny
  • This is my 10th year to teach
  • Ive taught in public, private and Montessori
    schools, grades pre-k 6th

Arrival
  • School begins at 750
  • Tardy bell is 800
  • Students may arrive at 725 to eat breakfast
  • Students arriving before 750 should go to the
    gym, even if you stay with them
  • 3 tardies 1 unexcused absence

Dismissal
  • School ends promptly at 315
  • Please follow dismissal rules to ensure safety
    for all students, staff, and parents
  • 1st grade will be under the awning closest to the
    street
  • Please use the orange sign to make the process
    faster

Attendance
  • Regular and timely attendance is critical!!
  • Academics begin at 800 promptly
  • Many concepts are introduced for the first time
    in first grade. Therefore, when students miss
    school they are at a disadvantage!
  • In first grade it is so important to establish
    routines. We are preparing them success
  • Excessive absences and tardies make it difficult
    for students to accomplish this
  • If your child is sick, please call the office
    817-547-3100 and send a written note when he or
    she returns

Responsibility
  • I believe its important to each child to learn
    responsibility. Because of this belief everyone
    in our classroom has a chore for the week.
    They change every week, but I want them to
    realize its important to take responsibility in
    order to keep our classroom running smoothly.
    Here are a list of the chores each week.

  • Follow directions the first time given
  • Turn in work on time

How you can help
  • Stress the importance of school and learning
  • Make sure your child reads at least 20 minutes a
    day
  • Have your child read aloud to you
  • Ask questions to see if your child understands
    what is being read
  • Focus on your what your child is doing right

    case), phonological awareness, blended sounds,

  • This assessment will be given to your child
    three times this year.
  • You will be given the results with
    recommendations on ways to improve your childs

Grades
  • This year your child will receive a report card
    each six weeks using a numerical system. Any
    paper with a grade less than 70 (other than
    tests) may be corrected that week and returned
    for a passing grade. A report card conference
    will be scheduled within the first six weeks.
    You will be need you attend a conference in order
    to receive your childs report card. Parents and
    students will have access to my grade book
    online. Please see the office for procedures on
    getting registered. This will make it easier for
    you to check on progress as well as late
    assignments.

HOMEWORK AND PLANNERS
  • Homework is any unfinished work from the day.
    Beginning next week your child will have homework
    on Mondays and Thursdays
  • Planners I will check planners daily. It is a
    great means of communication. Spelling words
    will be written in them soon
  • Homework should be kept in a folder
  • Please review their work with them to make
  • sure it has been completed.

Papers and Notes
  • Your child has a blue Tuesday Folder
  • I will send home all notes and papers in this
    folder every Tuesday, unless its a note that
    needs to be sent home immediately

TIPS FOR HOMEWORK
  • Read your childs planner before they start so
    you will be aware of what they have
  • Encourage them to do homework as soon as they get
    home before the evening begins!
  • Read to and with your child
  • Practice their math facts
  • Offer support with homework, but also encourage
    independence as well

  • Ask them about their day
  • Be our partner!

Volunteer
  • The computer in the back of the room is set up
    now so you may complete the form as an approved
    volunteer
  • In order to attend field trips, you must complete
    this information
  • We are planning on at least 2, maybe 3 trips this
    year

What We Need From You
  • Well-rested kids
  • Healthy snacks (carrot sticks, celery sticks,
    pretzels, goldfish, water), no chips or cookies
  • Practice WRITING their basic letters and numbers
    at home
  • Encourage your children to read signs (McDonalds,
    Taco Bell)
  • Math computer games
  • Find language and math in our everyday lives
