  • I was not read to as a child
  • My mother was not much of a reader, writer, or
    speller
  • Bought us encyclopedias, though

Scholastics
  • 1st books I remember getting
  • My mother let me pick two each time
  • I was so excited to get nice, new books
  • I remember Curious George, Clifford the Big Red
    Dog, Harry the Dirty Dog, Frog Toad,
    Charlottes Web

Book Reports
  • 4th or 5th grade started writing them
  • I asked my friends to tell me what a book was
    about
  • Introduced me to VC Andrews
  • 1st series I ever read!!!

Dabbled with writing
  • Around 10 years old
  • Used to write little plays and stories to
    entertain family friends
  • Convinced that I was going to be famous

High School
  • Friend gave me a book
  • Linda Lovelace
  • Mother picked on me that my eyes got real big and
    my mouth dropped open
  • I was traumatized and stopped reading for a while

College
  • Worked in the library at SUNY Canton
    Plattsburgh (ohthe books)
  • Several expository writing courses, liked the
    descriptive aspect

  • Between college and getting a real job
  • Started writing short stories
  • Have quite a collection
  • Sent some in to online publishers nuttin

  • MALS degree
  • More practice writing
  • Ultimately want to become published
  • Returned for MST (professional student??)
  • Enjoy breaking this down for people

  • Like books so much that I opened an online book
    store in 2007
  • Read every night
  • Bring books with me when I go away
  • Jot down writing ideas while reading

Influences
  • Step-father read often
  • Encouraged me to read and do well in school
  • 10th grade English teacher, Mr. Harrigan
  • Enjoy school enough to return (twice)

Action Plan
  • Mindful that there are many different kinds of
    students
  • Continuing education
  • Encourage students to ask questions and search
    for answers
