Citizenship of the World
  • "I am a citizen, not of Athens or of Greece, but
    of the world." - Socrates
  • Citizenship is not only practiced in the US, but
around the world. People of all countries should
consider not only their country, but people all
    around the world.

  • "The first requisite of a good citizen in this
republic of ours is that he shall be able and
willing to pull his weight." - Theodore
    Roosevelt
  • People of the US need to contribute as much or
more of what they receive from their country.

Involving Americans in Citizenship
  • A new approach to citizenship, is to build study
circles with a bunch of people. Their goal is
to increase involvement in there communities.
  • Direct Impact
  • People that practice good citizenship will want
to know that their efforts to improve the
community will have an impact in the lives of
    other people.
  • Individual Participation
  • Similar to Direct Impact people want to know
that their time and effort as one person makes a
    difference.
  • Work in diverse groups
  • Interacting with people of different backgrounds
gives people a better understanding of different
    viewpoints.

Involving Americans in Citizenship (cont.)
  • Overcome Isolation
  • People want to know that they are not alone in
their efforts to improve peoples lives.
  • When people join in bigger groups and see people
joined in the same effort, it makes them feel
that they are a part of something larger than
    themselves.
