Biography

• Dante was born in San Martino, Florence in 1265.

• He was exiled from Florence in 1301.

• He is most famous for the Italian verse trilogy,
  The Divine Comedy
• The Inferno, The Purgatorio, and The Paradiso.

• He probably started writing The Divine Comedy in
  1307. He completed The Inferno in 1314. He most
  likely finished The Paradiso in 1321, the year of
  his death.

• The story of The Inferno starts on Good Friday,
  1300.

• Dante the Pilgrim finds himself lost in a dark
  wood guarded by three beasts a wolf, a lion, and
  a leopard. In order to escape, he must descend to
  Hell. Virgil appears to guide him.

• Together, Dante and Virgil descend to the bottom
  of Hell, until they reach Lucifer, stuck in the
  ice at the center of the earth. They climb down
  Lucifer's body and reach Purgatory, where they
  ascend to the surface of the earth. At the top of
  the Mountain of Purgatory, Beatrice comes to lead
  Dante to Paradise.
