Hong Kong Disneyland is located on reclaimed
land on Pennys Bay, Lantau, Hong Kong. The park
is built on what previously used to be an
untouched area classed as a greenfield site.
  • The Hong Kong Disneyland project was announced in
    November 1999 as a venture between The Walt
    Disney Company and the Hong Kong SAR Government
    and scheduled to open in 2005/06.
  • Size 126 Hectares (310 acres).
  • The project is estimated to create 18,400 new
    jobs, both from Disney and other employment
    opportunities, rising to 36,000 once the park is
    fully completed.

  • The Phase I build-out includes a 10 million
    annual visitor Disneyland-based theme park, 2,100
    hotel rooms, and a 28,000 square meters (300,000
    square foot) retail, dining and entertainment
    complex.
  • The first phase of the project will generate a
    present economic value of HK148 billion in
    benefits to Hong Kong.
  • The theme park contains 57 kilometers of
    pipeline, 11 kilometers of cable 2 million
    cubic meters of topsoil created solely to support
    the extensive landscaping on the site.
