System Requirements
  • Stakeholder and user requirements
  • Interviews to discover UML use-case descriptions
  • Use of a mock user-interface using plain HTML
    pages
  • Creation of Requirements Specification reviewed
    and signed off

7
System design and prototype
  • Analysis of use-case descriptions to create
    classes and relationships
  • Entity Class List and Class diagram created
  • HTML Interface and Skeleton Java code (from
design) used as starting point to develop
    prototype system
  • Prototype developed using Java Server Pages
(JSP), Java Beans, Oracle XSQL pages and XSLT
    stylesheets.

8
Prototype system evaluated
  • Prototype system demonstrated and available for
    use over four weeks
  • Stakeholder feedback received
  • Incorporation of feedback into fixes and
    improvements for the final system
  • Use-cases descriptions updated

9
Final System Developed
  • Prototype as basis for the Final System
  • Further functionality added to the system
  • Fixes and improvements from stakeholder feedback
    made to the system

10
Final System Evaluated
  • Stakeholders and users evaluation of the system
  • System security evaluation UK Government
    guidelines
  • System maintainability evaluation coding
    standards, documentation, ease of understanding.

11
Conclusion and Discussion
  • The system is currently being used internally
throughout the Oil and Gas Directorate
  • However not available to Oil and Gas industry
users or members of the public In the future it
is hoped that the system will be incorporated
    into the UK Oil Portal
