6 Schedule
- PVHS will operate on a 7 period day.
- Students can earn 7 credits a year 28 credits
within 4 years. - We will offer 45 minute classes that meet year
long and 90 minute classes that meet for one
semester or 90 minute alternating day all year
earning 1 credit. (Blended schedule)

8High school courses taken in 8th grade
- These courses can only be placed on the high
school transcript if the middle school transcript
shows a credit earned. If a credit is not
awarded, then students can take a St. Johns
county final exam to possibly earn credit. - Algebra 1 (Regular or Honors) and/or Spanish
grade(s) will be placed on the high school
transcript no matter what the grade. - These courses taken in middle school are the ONLY
ones that you can repeat in high school to
replace a C. Grade forgiveness for courses
taken in high school is only allowed for a grade
of D or F.

14Criteria for Honors or AP
- Grades of a C or higher in a previous Honors
class or an A in the previous standard class - FCAT scores of level 4 or 5
- Math scores used for math science courses
- Reading scores used for English, social studies,
and world language - PSAT score
- A score of 48 or higher on the appropriate
assessment. - Norm Referenced test 78 or higher on the
appropriate assessment.
15What is AP?
- Advanced Placement courses are offered through
College Board and have been around since 1955. - They are college level courses taught by high
school teachers. - Students take an exam in May. By scoring a 3 or
higher out of 5, a student can earn college
credit or placement.

17Why take AP courses?
- Students experience a rigorous, college-level
curriculum and have the chance to earn credit,
placement, or both for college. - Research shows that students are more likely to
graduate college in 4 years if they have been
exposed to a rigorous course in high school. - Earning college credit while in high school
credits are basically FREE!
18What if your student isnt ready for Honors/AP
courses?
- Standard level courses are taught in each
subject. - Taking standard level courses are acceptable and
will prepare students to enter a community
college or a 4 year university depending upon the
level of competitiveness.
