  courses from divisional categories in
  consultation with advisor/seminar instructor
• Limited seminar requirements that lead to the
  creation of an interdisciplinary minor in
  consultation with advisor/seminar instructor

  selects 10 seminars/sem or year
• Seminar leaders are pre-major advisors
• Steering C Members 1 FL dept member, 1 Faculty
  other discipline, Dean of College, Dean of
  Freshmen, 2 upper class students

First Year Seminars Organization

• Redesigned courses
• New courses that replace others in dept offerings
• Courses offered in addition to present schedule
• Function similar to other 100 level courses
• Will not count toward major
• Will not replace foreign lang requirement but
  should be taken concurrently with introductory
  language for those without target language
• May be offered in target language depending on
  skill level of students and faculty
• Goal is for students to internationalize early -
  take risks exploring languages and topics
  previously not studied or conduct
  interdisciplinary research in target language
  before major or Center selection
