ALCALÁ UNIVERSITY
  • The city of Alcalá de Henares is located 30 Km
    away from Madrid, 17 Km from Barajas airport,
    very well communicated. The University was
    founded in 1499, and is the second oldest one in
    Spain, and one of the oldest in Europe.
  • Currently Alcalá University has about 22.000
    students and 1.600 teachers (ratio
    teachers/students 1/14), and gives service to the
    East part of the province of Madrid and to
    neighbour provinces. Includes 15 Faculties, 14
    libraries, and offers 42 official degrees and 38
    doctoral programmes.

Alcalá University
  • Alcalá University has three campus
  • City centre includes the Faculties of
    Philosophy and Letters, Economy and Business,
    Laws, Documentation, Psychopedagogy,
    Geodesy and Cartography and Architecture.
  • External campus located 4 Km away from the
    city centre, contains the Faculties of
    Medicine, Pharmacy, Biology, Chemistry,
    Environmental Sciences, Nursery and
    Physiotherapy, and the Polytechnic Faculty.
  • Guadalajara city located 25 Km away from
    Alcalá de Henares, contains the Faculties of
    Technical Architecture, Business Sciences and
    Tourism.

The Polytechnic Faculty
  • The Polytechnic Centre of Alcalá University,
    located in one single building in the external
    campus of the University, includes two Faculties
  • Superior Polytechnic School (EPS)

The Academic Course
  • The academic course has two semesters
  • 1st Semester From end September to 3rd week
    January (15 weeks).
  • 2nd Semester From mid February to first June
    (15 weeks).
  • Exams 3 weeks in January, June and September (no
    classes)
  • January exams for courses taught in 1st
    semester, 2nd chance in September
  • June exams for courses taught in 2nd semester,
    2nd chance in September
  • September exams could be taken from home
    University by fax, through the International
    Coordinator.
  • Holidays 2 weeks in Christmas, 1 week in Easter,
    1 month in summer

Courses and Exams
  • Currently all courses are taught in Spanish
    language. Final projects or thesis can be
    developed in English language.
  • Most courses are semestral (4 months long), very
    few are annual (8 months long).
  • Most courses have guided laboratory work, apart
    from theory classes. Each laboratory group in
    each course is normally 2 hours long per week,
    working two students together in each place.
  • Exams are normally written, sometimes with
    practical works, rarely oral. Dates are fixed and
    published since the beginning of the academic
    year.
  • Detailed class and exam timetables are easily
    located in our webs, as well as detailed contents
    of all our courses (in Spanish language).

  • There are four technological Departments resident
    inside the Polytechnic building
  • Automatics Department 69 teachers (16 doctors)
  • Electronics Department 65 teachers (31 doctors)
  • Signal Theory and Communications Department 61
    teachers (21 doctors)
  • Computer Science Department (gives service mainly
    to the "Computer Science School") 87 teachers
    (33 doctors)
  •  
  • Besides these, other general Departments give
    services in the Polytechnic Centre, such as
    Department of Mathematics, Physics, Business
    Sciences and English Philology.

  • There is also an associated centre, the "High
    Technology And Homologation Centre", which is
    located in the Polytechnic building.

Erasmus Programme
  • The Polytechnic Centre has Erasmus exchange
    agreements with 60 European universities, and
    bilateral exchange agreements with other 10
    universities in America and Europe. We send 130
    students abroad each year, and receive 40.
  •  SPANISH LANGUAGE COURSE
  • Offered by the University (free of charge) in
    intensive classes from Monday to Friday, 4
    hours/day, 4 weeks. Level test 10 days before
    classes start.
  • Also offered by particular Language Schools
    (not free) with intensive courses in different
    periods including summer courses.

  • PRACTICES IN COMPANIES
  • Foreign students can realize practice periods in
    companies around Madrid, for up to 12 months,
    part time or full time, normally with salary and
    in many cases using only English language at work
    in multinational companies (not necessary to know
    Spanish language).
