Review 2007 Childrens Plan These policies have
built on a range of local and national
initiatives
4 and we now have a working definition
- A comprehensive cultural offer.will ensure that
all children and young people, no matter where
they live or what their background, have the
chance to engage in at least five hours of high
quality culture a week in and out of school.
- learning in and about culture helping young
people develop as critical spectators,
participants and creators in the cultural world
around them - learning through culture using engagement with
the arts and other activities to boost
creativity, attainment and personal development
5There are many motives for creating a cultural
offer of a minimum of five hours a week
- to bring coherence to existing initiatives
- to engage more people aged 0-19 in more high
quality cultural experiences - to provide opportunities for young people to
engage with creative practitioners - to develop transferable creative and personal
skills, and a lifelong interest in culture - to support all five Every Child Matters outcomes
- to identify and develop talent
- to support pathways into the creative industries
- to prevent cultural apartheid
6What will the Cultural Offer look like?
