10What is a Queensland Certificate of Education?
- A QCE will be awarded to young people only if
their course of study satisfies some specific
requirements - a significant amount of learning
- a set standard of achievement
- a set pattern
- literacy and numeracy requirements.

16Credit rules for awarding a QCE
- The amount of study in each category and the
standard to be met is laid down in legislation.
17Core courses of study
- To qualify for a QCE, a minimum of 12 credits
must come from completed Core courses of study. - At least 1 credit must come from Core studies
completed while enrolled at school.

20Relaxation of the completed Core requirement
- Changes of subjects within Mathematics and
English may still be regarded as completed Core
when the student changes upon realising that they
have chosen a subject in which they are not
achieving as well as hoped.

22Relaxation conditions
- The learner must still have 20 credits.
- Subjects must be changed after first or second
semester. - A minimum provisional result of a Limited Level
of Achievement must be attained for the original
subject. - A minimum exit result of a Sound Level of
Achievement must be attained for the final
subject at the end of Year 12

- Authority subjects and Authority-registered
subjects based on semesters studied before
exiting with a Sound Level of Achievement or
higher standard. - VET Certificate qualifications based on 25, 50
or 75 of the competencies attained. - Components of recognised international learning
programs may contribute towards the award of a
QCE.

- Up to 2 semesters of incomplete Authority and
Authority-registered subjects at Limited Level of
Achievement can be conceded towards the award of
a QCE, if needed, providing the student has
exited the subject(s) after the first or second
semester of each course.

- A Mathematics or English subject that has been
exited and used as part of completed Core
according to the new relaxation arrangements

- Credits can accumulate for up to 9 years after
registering for a learning account (generally the

- Students are not required to meet all QCE
requirement by the end of Year 12. - Not being eligible for a QCE does not mean that a
student has failed senior.

- A student works towards completing an
apprenticeship. - They start with a school-based apprenticeship and

- Another 6 credits are banked into their learning

- A total of 20 credits accrue in the learning
account. - The student will be awarded a QCE.
62The Senior Education Profile
- On completion of Year 12 students receive a
Senior Education Profile. - All students receive a Senior Statement,
and eligible students receive a QCE and a
Tertiary Entrance Statement. - Students who continue to study towards a QCE
after completing Year 12 will receive a Statement
of Results when they become eligible to receive a
QCE.

- A statement issued to a student who is enrolled
at school on the last day of Year 12.

- Issued to a student at any time other than the
end of Year 12, such as when the student - completes the requirements of the QCE
- sits for a Senior External Examination
- The Statement of Results is cumulative and shows
all contributing studies to date.
