Background
1994
More than 120 European regions have carried out
RIS projects
2001-2002
Sixteen RIS-NAC projects, were launched in
Bulgaria, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Estonia,
Hungary, Latvia, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and
Slovenia.
2005
The EU have launched three strategic axes
STRAND 1
33 new RIS-NAC projects (Malta, Lituania,
Lettonia, Latvia, )

Our mission
Work side-by-side with RIS Regions to optimize
the implementation (acceleration and higher
performances) of their innovation action plans by
exploiting EU added value(mutual learning and
cooperation in innovation policy)

How will we operate?
Innovation Coach will

• Dialogue with Regions to understand needs and
  priorities and receive feedback on support
  provided
• Gather best EU knowledge and expertise to be
  applied to..
• Work out the implementation solutions better
  matching regional interests and local conditions
• Transfer to RIS Regions the know-how needed to
  effectively manage the scheme introduced and
  design future versions
• Support regional absorption

Where will we operate?
Innovation Coach will be present in all the RIS
Regions having completed their innovation action
plan, therefore..

• Synergies and exchanges among projects will be
  fostered
• Lessons on implementing innovation policy in the
  Enlarged Europe will be drawn and continuously
  exploited to improve our support

Counselling schemes (regional-focused,

Counselling schemes
ONE-TO-ONE SUPPORT PACKAGES BASED ON THE
FOLLOWING MIX International expert specialist
advice High profiled advisors working with the
regions to design and deliver high-performing
innovation mechanisms/tools Capacity building
schemes Training local teams thus ensuring the
skills needed to run the support mechanisms/tools
created. Mentoring regional actors for policy
design and delivery Absorption enhancement
sessions Awareness raising and consensus
building activities to enhance the readiness of
the region towards the new mechanisms created

• NEGOTIATION ASSISTANCE (Participation to
  institutional tables and Committees, capacity
  building)

• A fully-engineered innovation scheme ready to

  around the action
