The TPC arrives in a transport cradle (delphi
frame) and moves into the spaceframe to a
distance of 4.5m from the IP. All inner
detectors are installed and the TPC is finally
moved over the inner detectors to the IP.

connected right after installation ? start of

Overall Constraints
The ALICE central detector installation ? TPC/
ITS barrel/ Beampipe/ V0-C/ T0-C/ FMD3/ SPD/ SSD/
SDD/ FMD2/ TPC/ Valve/ Miniframe/ T0-A/ V0-A/
FMD1/ PMD/ Dipole/ Beampipe/ Shielding is a
strict sequence that MUST be followed in exactly
this way. Also the installation of TOF, TRD and
PHOS is fixed in the sequence, because for this
installation the TPC transport cradle (Delphi
Frame) must be removed and the Miniframe must not
yet be there. A major part of the sequence
was exercised in an installation test in 2005
with the real TPC and 75 of the real
installation tooling. This test was presented to
the LHCC.

Overall Constraints
The dimuon spectrometer is independent of this
installation sequence and is working its on a
schedule with the only constraint of being
ready on 31.8. 2007. ? See presentation of the
Muon spectrometer.

absorbed the 4 month additional time from the
LHC schedule for extended commissioning (TPC)
and termination of ITS. Using last years
installation schedule sequence we are one month
late. This month is regained by performing the
installation of the last 4 forward detectors
between vacuum closure and first beam
injection. We have not compressed the schedule.
It is still based on 5 8hour working days/week,
meaning that nights and weekends are
contingency. Our delays are from waiting for
detectors and not from increased installation
time.

Overall Commissioning Strategy
All sub detectors perform a combined DAQ/ECS/TRG
test at CERN with the final components on the
surface. Services and electronics are installed
before the detector is installed in the
cavern. Commissioning and checking of detectors
can start right after installation and
connection.

Status of Detector Commissioning
TOF, TRD, HMPID, ACORDE are being connected at
the moment and commissioning in the cavern will
start within weeks. For all other detectors the
service installation is in full swing in order to
be ready when the detectors are installed. Racks
are ready to receive electronics. First
electronics crates are currently being installed.

Summary
The ALICE detector installation is a strict
sequence that is well established and was
extensively tested and studied. Delay was
accumulated due to waiting for ITS
detector. ITS is in place and the sequence is
again well under way. The detectors coming next
in the sequence are ready to be
installed. Certification of detectorsDAQ/ECS/TRG
on the surface is ongoing. Apart from the
installation of the detectors the main focus is
on installation and verification of services
(cables, fibres, cooling) in order to be able to
start detector commissioning right after
installation.
