Romans 131 Let every person be subject to the
governing authorities. For there is no authority
except from God, and those that exist have been
instituted by God.
1 Peter 217 Honor everyone. Love the
brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the emperor.
3John 1711-16 And I am no longer in the world,
but they are in the world They are not of the
world, just as I am not of the world.
John 1836 Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of
this world. If my kingdom were of this world, my
servants would have been fighting, that I might
not be delivered over to the Jews. But my kingdom
is not from the world. Philippians 320 But
our citizenship is in heaven Ephesians 612 For
we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but
against the rulers, against the authorities,
against the cosmic powers over this present
darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in
the heavenly places.
We have a war to fight, but the wars of this
world are not our wars!
4THE FUNDAMENTAL LAW OF CHRISTS KINGDOM
Matthew 2237-40 You shall love the Lord your
God with all your heart and with all your soul
and with all your mind. This is the great and
first commandment. And a second is like it You
shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these
two commandments depend all the Law and the
Prophets.
Galatians 514 For the whole law is fulfilled in
one word You shall love your neighbor as
yourself.
Romans 138-10 Owe no one anything, except to
love each other, for the one who loves another
has fulfilled the law. For the commandments, You
shall not commit adultery, You shall not murder,
You shall not steal, You shall not covet, and
any other commandment, are summed up in this
word You shall love your neighbor as yourself.
Love does no wrong to a neighbor therefore love
is the fulfilling of the law.
5THE DISCIPLES DIDNT GET IT
Luke 2236 He said to them, But now let the one
who has a moneybag take it, and likewise a
knapsack. And let the one who has no sword sell
his cloak and buy one.
2238 And they said, Look, Lord, here are two
swords. And he said to them, It is
enough. ???
6THE ARGUMENT FROM OLD TESTAMENT WARS I. Leads to
Absurdity A. Wars that would be
justified 1. wars of invasion 2. wars for the
purpose of taking land 3. wars for the purpose of
eradicating idolatry 4. utter destruction
including women children 5. unprovoked
wars B. Defensive War might not be justified
7II. By What Principle OT war was justified It is
a principle which could make any war right, and
without which no war could be right.
It is the principle of implicit
obedience to God.
Sometimes, as in the case of the Canaanites
and of the Amalekites, it was God's will
expressly revealed to them, that they should
invade and exterminate nations who had done them
no injury. To do this without a command from God
would have been a most infamous crime but under
his command it became a solemn religious duty.
God himself, for reasons of his own, decided that
these nations should be exterminated, and he made
the Jews the executioners of his will. They
undertook war not by their own volition, or at
the instance of their own judgment and they
found it hazardous to have any will of their own
in reference to its prosecution or its
termination." ("Jewish Wars Precedents for Modern
Wars," Lard's Quarterly, vol. 5, no. 2, April
1868)
