storm water attenuation tanks
  • Legislation under PPS 23 and 25 and Building
Regulations H3 for flood risk assessment (SUDS)
has created the need for planners and developers
to design and install cost effective storm water
    management systems.
  • There is an ever increasing demand for source
control, pollution prevention and re-cycling of
one of worlds most precious resources, good
management of which can prevent environmental
    disasters.
  • Atlantic CSP offers you the most cost effective
versatile solution to underground storm water
attenuation. Our storm water tanks are fully
    integrated with manifolds, access manholes
    ladders, compatible drain connections, silt
sumps, and sealed coupling joints, (Coupling
joints have been accessed for Air Water
Tightness by BBA in accordance with Sewers for
    Adoption 6th Edition Cl 5.7.4 and 5.7.5.).
Atlantic will fit integral Vortex Flow Control
Devices or Integra Pumping Stations for high
    level discharge.
  • The diameter and layout of each Atlantic storm
water attenuation tank is based on three basic
    parameters
  • Storage volume, calculated from the hydraulic
model of the site including the discharge
    restriction enforced at planning stage.
  • The upstream and existing outfall drainage
    levels
  • The available footprint of the location for the
    tank

storm water attenuation tanks
Atlantic CSPs extensive range of diameters and
bespoke fabrications offers you an infinite
variety of designs to suit every site condition.
Integral manholes and compatible drainage
connections give total access for inspection and
cleaning, unlike 'Many Plastic Cell Systems' that
are inaccessible. Factory assembled components
and mechanically fitted sealed coupling joints
make the Atlantic system simple and quick to
install, not requiring geotextiles or
geomembranes, under drainage pipes or ventilation
systems. Atlantic also factory fit drain
connections stubs at any level and angle with a
diameter that will fit your chosen drain pipe
material, e.g. Clayware, PCC or
Plastic. Atlantic CSP storm water
attenuation tanks are probably the most cost
effective, maintenance accessible system on the
market. Since our launch in 2000, Atlantic CSP
has supplied tanks to nearly 300 projects.

Harvesting and Recycling In addition to the
attenuation, you may wish to consider your storm
water as an asset rather than a problem fully
utilised, harvesting and recycling of this
precious commodity, can reduce the need for mains
supplied potable water, or in the case of a zero
discharge restriction, it may be your only
option, especially if the native sub-strata does
not lend itself to infiltration /
soakaway. harvesting and recycling tank In
which case the Atlantic tank system can be
installed for collection of roof drainage and
intercepted surface water run off. Flanged
connections can be fabricated for pumped
extraction into the grey water filtration
system, or irrigation systems. The Atlantic
system can be manufactured for a combination
of harvesting and attenuation, where integral
weirs are placed within the tank to allow
both retained storage and overflow discharge,
via our vortex flow controlled outlet.

culverts / service tunnels
Galvanised Corrugated Steel Pipes have been
installed as culverts and underpasses on road and
rail infrastructure for nearly 100 years their
track record and design methodology is well
respected within the Civil Engineering
Industry. It is a well documented fact that
flexible structures are able to resist backfill
and imposed load often in excess of the
capability of buried rigid structures. Atlantic
CSP offers you culverts in diameters from 300mm
to 3600mm in a choice of profiles and steel
thicknesses to cope with a wide range of loading
requirements, designed in accordance with BD12
Specification. Atlantic Culverts can be supplied
with beveled ends to suit the embankment profile,
which can reduce the cost of wing walls etc. We
also offer a range of water control devices and
access / inspection shafts. Atlantic CSP Culverts
are hydraulically designed using the Nomograph
system or the Mannings roughness coefficient -
the Atlantic CSP Technical Team will be pleased
to advise you on hydraulic design and pipe
diameter sizing.

culverts / service tunnels
Service Tunnels Atlantic CSP can be installed for
interconnecting service tunnels, carrying
services between buildings. Our fabrication
department can "Fit Out" the tunnel walls with
cradles and racking to your specification.
Vertical access shafts with ladders make for easy
access from surface and puddle flanged
connections to the tie in walls ensure water
tight connections into the building. Concrete
paved walk ways are poured in-situ and sealed
with mastic between the corrugated steel wall.

flow controls
Vortex Gravity Flow Control Atlantic offers an
extensive range of vortex flow control devices to
accommodate any discharge requirement
manufactured in high grade stainless steel, they
form an integral part of the Atlantic storm water
attenuation tank, alleviating the need for
separate down stream control chambers. Man
access shafts and silt entrapment chambers are
housed within the tank at the Flow Controlled
outlet, ensuring maintenance free lifetime
operation our flow control units are supplied
with a drain down pivoting door, in the unlikely
event of a blockage. The unit has no moving parts
and is therefore energy and maintenance
free. Our flow control units can be
purchased separately for connection to
downstream storm and foul water manholes.
Orifice Plates are also available to your
specified discharge and operating head.

Pumping Stations Where the existing storm water
sewer or water course is at a shallow invert
level, there is often little option other than to
employ the use of a pumping system to discharge
the attenuated storm water. Atlantic offers
integrated pumping stations within the storm
water attenuation tank, complete with all M E
accessories, designed to your required discharge
commissioned and fully warranted, we will connect
the pumps, kiosk and control panel to your power
supply and rising main. Pump systems are
offered as Duty / Standby or Duty / Assist,
with telemetry communication, alarms and
beacons. All pump installations are
guaranteed for 12 months, with extended
warranties and maintenance contracts also
available.

soak aways / infiltration
Occasionally, planning permission may enforce a
zero discharge restriction, or where
re-charging the ground water via infiltration /
soakaway, may be a more acceptable SUDS
approach. It certainly reduces the amount of
direct discharge and can reduce the volume of
attenuation required. Atlantic CSP offers a
range of perforated pipes to suit site specific
conditions in accordance with BRE Digest 365. The
perforation pattern will be governed by the
infiltration design which is based on the
attenuation volume, percolation rates of the
native soil and existing water table levels. We
can provide combinations of attenuation and
soakaway, to suit your available footprint and
drainage levels. It is general practice to
place geo-textile between the tank wall and
the backfill, to prevent ingress of the
granular material into the tank, or use a
particle size larger than the perforations.
The attenuation / soakaway rates are often
designed hydraulically using a combination
of tank volume and void ratio of the backfill
material.

access chambers
Apart from our standard integral access shafts
supplied with Atlantic Storm Water Attenuation
Tanks, we offer you a vast range of stand alone
inspection Chambers, pump stations and catch
pits, complying to BS EN 752 2008 which can be
installed remotely from the attenuation tank as
alternative to PCC construction. Complete with
ladders to BS EN 143962004 CSP manholes can also
be benched and channeled for improved hydraulic
performance on change of direction. Drain
connection stubs are fabricated for easy assembly
to the upstream and downstream drain runs, at the
required invert levels and angles. Surface finish
with cover slab etc is similar to PCC manholes.

structural and hydraulic design
Hydraulic Design Atlantic Storm Water
Attenuation Tanks are designed around the storage
volume which is calculated by storm water source
control software, e.g. "Micro Drain" which
calculates the volume of attenuation required
based on the catchment area, impermeability
factors, storm event (e.g. 1100 yr return) and
the discharge restriction imposed by the
Environment Agency or Regional Water Company etc.
Atlantic will Value Engineer your attenuation
design, with the Best Fit / Best Value layout
to suit your storage, drainage levels and
available footprint. We will also advise on
drainage layout design upstream and downstream of
the attenuation tank. Atlantic CSP will
design the "best fit" tank layout to suit
your storage volume, drainage levels and
available footprint. With an almost infinite
amount of diameters and layouts we can "Value
Engineer" your tank and associated
drainage. Culvert Design is usually
calculated by hydraulic "Nomograph" which
calculates the diameter required to
accommodate a given flow at a specific gradient
(Atlantic will advise on best practice).

structural and hydraulic design
Structural Design CSP structures are designed
to perform under main highway loading, normally
assessed under 45 units HB HA live imposed
loads. As a flexible structure, CSP resists both
static and dynamic loads by developing passive
resistance within the backfill and forming a
pipe/steel composite, transferring almost
two-thirds of the load to the sidefill and native
trench material enabling it to withstand greater
loads than a PCC pipe. As part of the Atlantic
warranty, we carry out structural design life
calculations in accordance with the Highways
Agency BD12 Specification which determines the
steel thickness required to accommodate the site
specific conditions. Atlantic operates the
software Design of Buried Corrugated Metal
Structures which considers all aspects of the
installation. The chosen tank diameter and
footprint will be determined, not only by the
storage volume and levels, but also the minimum
cover required to resist the anticipated imposed
loads. Atlantic manufactures a range of Industry
Standard Section Profiles, from pre-galvanised
steel to BS EN 10143 with G600 Galvanised Steel,
(305gms/m2 on each surface) to provide a minimum
design life requirement of 120 yrs although a
more Value Engineered approach can be taken.
Atlantic holds full BBA Certification and ISO
9001 Q A. Every process of design and manufacture
has been accredited by the BBA,

certifications and design code
BBA Certification Atlantics commitment to
improving specifications for your industry has
resulted in a First for Corrugated Steel Storm
Water Tanks. Previous Certification only assessed
the product for use as culverts and ignored all
the other components used in the fabrication of
Storm Water Attenuation Tanks. Atlantic
strongly believe that it was our duty to explore
the structural performance of the whole system
consequently, a five year rolling programme of
Research and Development between Atlantic and the
BBA has resulted in the testing and approval of
every aspect of design and manufacture, including
structural integrity of welded sections, load
bearing capacity of manifolds, T sections, mitred
bends, access manholes, ladders, joint couplings,
and pipe lock seams. Specify Atlantic BBA
Certified Storm water tanks and be confident that
the whole system has been tested and approved.

Atlantic CSP uses the software programme
developed from BD12, to define material gauge and
profile to give the required design life for your
specific conditions. Atlantic's technical
services will supply you structural calculations
as part of our design and manufacturing
warranty. The BD12 Code still remains the
definitive model for installing and calculating
structural performance of CSP systems it is on
this basis that all Atlantic products have been
evaluated. When we provide you with structural
calculations, you can rest assured that under our
New BBA Certificate, they are applicable to the
whole system and not just the pipe. Your
