2Source of technology
- Researches conducted on Alternative Diesel Fuel
and Diesel Additive from Waste Fats and Oils - ASU Biodiesel Production, Research and
Development Program.
3Description of the technology
- Biodiesel is a clear liquid without unpleasant
odor. It has the same properties as mineral
fossil diesel oil. For this reason, it may be
used in a standard diesel engine without
additional modifications. It may also be blended
with petroleum diesel to improve the quality of
the latter.
4Description of the technology
- The process of converting animal fats or
vegetable oils into biodiesel is called
transesterification. It is the process of using
alcohol (methanol or ethanol) in the presence of
a catalyst, such as sodium hydroxide or potassium
hydroxide, to produce alcohol esters of animal
fats with glycerin as a by-product.

9Description of the technology
- Biodiesel is considered as a stand alone
technology and is classified as hot discipline
since the product is an environment-friendly fuel
alternative obtained from animal fats and oils
that can be used as substitute and/or additive to
petroleum diesel. It has been established that
the use of petroleum diesel results to the
release of noxious gases that cause greenhouse
effect and global warming.
10Description of the technology
- Further, the production of biodiesel from waste
fats and oils will help solve the problems of
Meat Products Manufacturers and Food Servers in
the province of Aklan, and even local government
planners in the province of Aklan on proper
disposal and conversion of waste products that
contain animal fats and used cooking oils.
