• Web based application for oceanogaphic data,
  widely used by data centers
• Serves mainly georeferenced gridded data
  (satellite, model outputs)
• Allow easy product overview, inter-comparison
• Dont care about the source products format,
  resolution, projection,
• Space/time data selection
• Time series, sections, maps, hovemöller
  diagrams,
• Multi-format extraction
• Images, netcdf, ascii,
• Interoperability
• Easy to set-up (provided data formatted in
  netCDF) for a data center
• Interconnection of multiple distributed LAS
  servers possible, for instance to set up a
  thematic portal (hidden links to remote LAS)

• In situ data display still a work in progress
• No quick browsing facilities
• Many steps to retrieve an image
• Poor interactivity when displaying images
• But
• Large community
• gives access to many source of data

• Smart browsing capacities
• Simple html/javascript light and fast access
• Easily configurable to cover new areas
• Limits
• Images only, no data
• Poor data display capabilities (maps only), low
  interactivity
• Very basic in situ data display difficult
  intercomparison
