Hip Hop meets politics!

• Rapper P. Diddy created the Vote or Die Campaign
  to encourage young Americans to vote for the 2004
  Presidential election.

Citizen Change

• Turnout voters 18-24 have slumped within the past
  three decades so P. Diddy decided to make a
  change for the 2004 election. He made that change
  by making a voter awareness campaign called
  citizen change.
• Citizen Change is aiming to educate and empower
  groups that are not adequately represented by
  politicians and thereby not well represented at
  the polls.

Was P. Diddy the main reason for youth voting in
2004?

• Not for everyone some voters casted their vote
  because of the war on Iraq, to fight for the
  right to marry whom they choose, have control
  over their reproductive organs, and to maintain
  other civil liberties that they feel is slipping
  away.
• Most young Americans are voting for what their
  parents and grandparents voted not from what a
  celebrity told them to do.

Did the Vote or Die Campaign work?

• Some says yes and some say no because overall
  turnout was high the percents of the youth vote
  was almost the same as 2000 but percents can hide
  as much as they reveal. More than 51 ages 18-29
  voted in 2004. In 2000 it was only 42.3 that
  voted.

• P. Diddy spoke out to many young Americans in
  this past election especially to those who felt
  that politics had nothing to do with their lives.
• He made young people aware of the consequences
  of not voting.

P. Diddys campaign brought some negative
feedback.

• Some say that Sean Diddy Combs broke federal
  laws but also used his get out and vote campaign
  to promote his own products.

• A complaint with the federal election committee
  claimed that Combs and his Vote or Die violated
  the federal election campaign act by promoting
  the election for John Kerry and the defeat of
  George W. Bush.

Vote or Die Campaign represented which candidate?

• Diddy claims to be nonpartisan but most of the
  celebrities who supported the Vote or Die
  campaign supported candidate John Kerry.
• In fact the youth vote was the only group that
  the democratic candidate won.
• John Kerry received 54 compared to President
  George Bush 44.

Why was this election so important?

• Whether it was because of P. Diddys hostile
  campaign or because people didnt want George
  Bush to be our president once again.
• This election affected our lives in many ways and
  so will every presidential election.
• So next election remember everything P. Diddy
  said and go out cast your vote
