13Problems Associated With Cultural Conditioning
A lack of objectivity can lead to the
following
Ethnocentrism
Bias
Discrimination
14In order to think critically despite our cultural
conditioning, we must do the following
Be understanding and respectful of the beliefs
and values of others.
Avoid allowing preconceived notions to dictate
what decisions you make.
Always gather as much information as is available
before you form an opinion.
15Everyone thinks it is our nature to do so. But
much of our thinking, left to itself, is biased,
distorted, partial, uninformed or down-right
prejudiced. Yet the quality of our life and that
of what we produce, make, or build depends
precisely on the quality of our thought. Shoddy
thinking is costly, both in money and in quality
of life. Excellence in thought, however, must be
systematically cultivated. -Richard Paul
