Origins of NGOGPP
  • The results of a study in 2003 identified urgent
    need for NGO good governance.
  • It has been developed by a Working Group of NGO
    representatives with wider consultations.
  • CCC's NGO GPP were asked to be a driving agent.
  • A NGO Voluntary Certification System was
    developed.
  • 3000 NGOs and other stakeholders have engaged in
    system.

Feature of the NGO Code
  • The NGO Code is a voluntary system.
  • Many countries in the world adopt such code to
    ensure and promote ethical behavior, good
    governance, and good practice of NGOs.
  • It aims to maintain and enhance standards of good
    organisational practice and ensure public trust .
  • The certification mechanism is used as a tool to
    promote professionalism and good practice .

Value Added Recognition
  • 17 ministerial departments of the RGC have been
    engaged in and learned from NGO GPP. CDC and MoI
    have actively participated and recognised this
    initiative.
  • 10 bilateral donors and 30 funding partners
    provided essential support to this system and
    recognised this initiative.
  • It is acknowledged internationally in the paper
    Civil Society and Aid Effectiveness submitted
    to the Accra High Level Forum, and CDC Annual
    Report on Aid Effectiveness as one of the best
    tools to promote NGO good governance,
    accountability and others.

System
  • This system provides great benefits to the NGO
    community, donors, government, and beneficiaries,
    including
  • gaining recognition for accountability and
    honesty,
  • mutual trust, safeguarding against improper
    behavior, promotes self improvement and
    sustainability,
  • reduce risk of misuse of funds, and effective
    partnerships and increase potential for
    development assistance funding.

  • good quality service, meaningful participation,
    ensure right to information of the citizens
  • Sound NGO self governance.
