Main Idea

• Tio Luis Burnt down Esperanzas house.
• Esperanza had to leave her private school.
• Esperanza lost everything she had.
• Mama wouldnt marry Tio Luis so he took all of
  their money.
• Tio Luis took Esperanzas families money so they
  are poor.
• Esperanza had to ride on the poor train unlike
  when she was rich and she rode on the rich train.
• Esperanza and her whole family had to fit in a
  little wagon so that they could get to the United
  States all together.

• Dont work outside when there is a dust storm or
  you might get sick like mama did.

Plot

• Esperanzas house got burnt down.
• Esperazas mom got sick.
• Hortensia taught Esperanza how to crochet.
• Esperanza crocheted a piece of hair in the
  blanket.
• They moved from many camps.

Setting
In Mexico Esperanzas house and farm was really
nice until Esperanzas uncle Tio Luis came and
burnt their house down. Their house was ruined
and everything they had was ruined. After the
fire the house looked really bad and everything
was just laying all over the ground. They found
some things they had on the ground after the
fire. The servants house looked bad to because he
burnt there house down too. Then they had to move
to an awful looking cabin in a California
camp. California Mexico Their farm

Characters

• Esperanza has long brown hair and she
  is tall and skinny and has very fine skin she is
  very nice and caring she helps mama when she is
  sick because she works for her so that they have
  money.
• Tio Luis is very tall he has black hair and it is
  cut really short he looks really evil all the
  time and he is mean he takes every ones money he
  is the president of the bank. He has control of
  all the money.
• Isabel is short and little she is skinny and has
  short blonde hair she is very caring and she
  helps a lot of people. She did most of the chores
  when she was in the camps because Esperanza
  didnt know how.

  they had permission to steal from the rich and

  rejects lawful or conventional behavior.
• Wistfully- Her porcelain face looked wistfully at
  Esperanza with enormous eyes.-Happy- Full of
  yearning or desire tinged with melancholy.

• It came in a yellowish-brown haze from the South
  and in rolling walls of black from the North.
• Children wore dust masks to and from school.
• The Dust Bowl of the 1930s lasted about a decade.
• Women hung wet sheets over windows in a futile
  attempt to stop the dirt.
• Farmers watched helplessly as their crops blew
  away.
