Lots of Desktops
  • You can set up a lot of different desktops, each
with its own look and feel, for various users of
    Windows 95.
  • This is done by logging on as a particular user.
  • Your user name (and password) will cause your
particular User Profile to be referenced, which
will then control the setup of the desktop.
  • User names and passwords are also needed if you
are going to be logging onto a network....

3
The User Logon Window
  • The logon box will quit appearing if
  • 1. Your password is blank,
  • 2. You disable User Profiles,
  • 3. You cant log onto a network when Windows 95
    starts up.
  • (User Profiles can be disabled as explained on a
    following slide.)

4
Configuring User Profiles
  • Follow these steps to set up User Profiles
  • 1. When the logon box appears, enter a user name
    and leave the password blank
  • 2. Click Start, Settings, Control Panel
  • 3. Double-click the Passwords icon in teh Control
Panel, then click the User Profiles tab. This
will bring up the User Profiles Passwords
    Properties sheet.
  • 4. Click the Users can customize... button,
    then click OK.
  • Now various users can log on with their
particular names, set up a desktop that has their
preferred look and feel, and these desktops will
come up automatically in the future.

5
The Passwords Properties Sheet
  • Used to set up the ability for each user to have
    a unique desktop
  • Display this by Start, Settings, Control Panel,
    Passwords, User Profiles.

6
Setting Up Your Start Menu
  • Clicking Start, then selecting Programs displays
a large number of program groups, which are set
    up automatically by Windows 95.
  • This is highly customizable.
