Support Programming for Grades 7 and 8
  • Three full-time positions added in Academic
    Support and Guidance
  • Program evaluated on an annual basis

Promoting the District
  • District website has been expanded
  • Technology has been used to help promote district
  • The Coordinator of Public Relations periodically
    attends community meetings
  • Emphasis has been placed on relationships with
    local media

  • Continue to make use of media and school
    technology to promote the district

Early Childhood
  • Assessments/data used to analyze and improve
    instruction
  • Parent literacy programs are presented throughout
    the elementary schools. 30 presentations with
    1205 parents were held during the 2004-2005
    school year
  • Full-day and extended programming were evaluated.
    Implementation is not feasible at this time
  • Recommendations for 2005 - 2008
  • Support the existing structure for parental
    workshops

Fine Arts Programs and Facilities
  • Renovations to the high school auditorium are
    nearly completed
  • Theater, drama and music continue to be
    encouraged
  • Artwork is now showcased throughout the district
  • Aerobics/Dance classes are offered at Penn Manor
    High School
  • PM Education Foundation and the Alumni
    Association are helping to promote and fund Fine
    Arts Programming
  • Recommendations for 2005 - 2008
  • Ongoing evaluation of elementary specialist
    programming

Gifted, Enrichment and Academic Excellence
  • Dual enrollment program started with Harrisburg
    Area Community College
  • Students accelerated in math at the elementary
    and middle schools
  • Courses in AP Calculus BC and AP Government
    courses added
  • Emphasis placed on programs such as Quiz Bowl
  • Attendance at PAGE conference
  • Three-credit gifted institute at Millersville
    University to be offered during the summer of
    2006

Gifted, Enrichment and Academic Excellence
  • Recommendations for 2005 - 2008
  • Provide resources targeted to classroom teachers
  • Expose all students to information concerning
    academic opportunities available beyond
    graduation
  • Encourage faculty to attend gifted institute at
    Millersville University
  • Review and revise procedures for gifted screening
  • Ongoing review of gifted staffing
  • Encourage academic acceleration as appropriate

Emerging needs
  • The following two district plans have also been
    included with the Mid-Point Review as requested
    by the Department of Education
  • Act 48 Continuing Professional Education Plan
    Plan originally approved in 2002 with updates on
    programming for 2005-2006
  • English as a Second Language Plan originally
    approved in 2002 with updated forms

Plan for Sharing the Mid-Point Review with the
Community
  • The document will be on public display in all
    district buildings
  • The Coordinator of Public Relations will post the
    document on the district website
